Youth Pastor

Job Description

The Youth Pastor is responsible for reaching, discipling, and mobilizing youth. With a primary focus on grades 6-12, the Youth Pastor provides ministry programing, relationship building, organization, and leader development. Identifying and equipping leaders for youth ministry is essential to sustainability and growth.

Essential Job Functions

Ministry Programs

  • Develop and oversee a ministry that aligns with the vision and mission of the church

  • Provide vision and oversight for all youth ministry. This includes planning and structuring worship experiences, teaching, small groups, and fun elements. 

  • Implement a comprehensive discipleship program for youth. 

  • Serve as the primary teaching voice while growing a team of diverse voices to communicate the gospel. 

  • Lead various events, retreats, and mission opportunities throughout the year for students to grow their faith. 

 

Relationship Building

  • Maintain a visible presence in local schools and community activities through regular attendance at student events, strategic campus engagement, and relationship building with students, parents, and school personnel. 

  • Implement monthly communication to inform parents what is happening and ways for them to stay involved with their student’s faith development. 

  • Mobilize students into deeper connections through small groups, serving opportunities, leadership development, and other next steps. 

  • Create environments which foster authentic community and belonging

  • Ensure excellent first time guest experience and follow up systems

 

Evangelism and Discipleship

  • Develop and implement outreach strategies that engage unchurched students and create opportunities for students to invite their peers into meaningful relationships with Jesus and the church 

  • Develop and implement a clear pathway that helps students move from first-time guest to fully devoted follow of Jesus. 

  • Encourage spiritual practices, biblical literacy, and community

  • Participate in the pastoral responsibilities of the church as needed, including student baptisms, family care, counseling, ministry support, and other pastoral functions which advance the vision of the church.   

Volunteer Team Development

  • Identify, recruit, and develop leaders

  • Provide ongoing coaching, encouragement, and development for volunteer leaders

  • Train leaders to lead groups, build community, and engage in outreach

  • Create systems that ensure health leader-to-student ratios and sustainable ministry growth

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in ministry, theology or related field is preferred with 2-5 years of experience

  • Demonstrated passion for reaching and discipling students

  • Experience developing leaders and multiplying ministry impact

  • Strong teaching and communication ability

  • Self-starter with an outward, mission-focused mindset

Necessary Skills and Abilities

  • Have a fire inside to share the gospel with students

  • Highly relational and strong evangelistic instincts

  • Self-starter who takes initiative and ownership

  • Ability to identify and develop leaders

  • Ability to cast vision and build culture

  • Strong organizational skills and consistent follow-through

Supporting and respecting one another even if we don’t agree. This means having honest, difficult conversations when needed, while refusing to gossip, hold grudges, or criticize others. We will choose instead to assume the best in each other.
